The last game of the Junior Olympics is for 5th place. The venue has been changed to Junipero Serra High School. Bad news is game time isn't until 4:10 PM.
So we slept in, had a nice breakfast at iHop and went to see the Del Mar Boys 16U game. After that, we had lunch at Jerry's Famous Deli in Costa Mesa barely making it back in time for our late check-out from the hotel.
Del Mar would face Northwood, again, in the 5th place game. The boys were revved up opening up with a 4-0 first quarter. Northwood finally answered in the second quarter with both teams scoring 2 goals apiece, and going into halftime with a score of Del Mar 6 - Northwood 2.
Northwood came out fighting in the third quarter out scoring Del Mar 4-2. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was Del Mar 8 - Northwood 6. Both teams had to muster up all they had for this last quarter of a four day, nine game tournament. Northwood fought hard, but Del Mar was relentless matching them goal for goal. The final seconds ticked off and Del Mar held Northwood off to win the game! Del Mar 10 - Northwood 8!!! Dakota's stats - 3 shot attempts, 3 goals scored, 2 assists, and 2 steals!!!
We packed up our canopy and chairs, gathered up our tired young man, and headed home. It was a great tournament and we couldn't have been prouder of Dakota's performance. Go, Del Mar!!!
