Photo Hike at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

Having to take some photographs for her photography film class, Alia decided on visiting the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve.  Accompanying her, I took advantage to practice my photography as well.

Upon arriving, Alia pointed out the cliffs along the beach and told me that she wanted to photograph those. So we parked the truck and started walking along the beach.

 Alia stopping to take pictures.

Listening to the camera as she winds up the film.

 Putting in a new roll.

Fujica, a great 35mm film camera handed down to her by PapaBear.

A nice portrait of Alia with my 50mm lens.

We came to steps leading up the cliffs and started hiking.

A beach overlook along the trail.

 Using an off-camera flash.

 Children exploring Flat Rock.

 My favorite - yellow daisies.

 Awesome landscape view.

 In black and white.

 Coast Guard helicopter flying by.

And we keep climbing up the trail.

We finally come out to the trail sign and it turns out we had climbed the Broken Hill trail.

The view of Torrey Pines beach as we walk down the road from the visitors center.

Once home, I looked up the website for the reserve and come to find out we had hiked the longest of all the trails!  I have lived in San Diego for over twenty years and had never known of the trails, beautiful views from the overlooks, and activities available at this reserve that is so close to our home.

This was my first visit, and I hope to have many more!  How better to combine exercise with photography!

Hail. Lots of hail!!!

On the night of the 19th, I was awoken to the sound of hail hitting the windows.  Come morning, there was still a lot of hail on the ground and on the vehicles.

A Segway Adventure

Taking advantage of having Dakota home for the week (District Recess break), we decided to go on an adventure and booked a segway tour for Wednesday, February 16th.  As luck would have it, it rained buckets on Wednesday!  So we re-booked for the following day, and it turned out to be a gorgeous one!  (I took these pictures with my point-n-shoot as I didn't want to risk falling with my slr camera.)

Beautiful sunny blue skies as we left our home for La Jolla.

James, of "We Love Tourists", teaches Dakota how to ride and maneuver a segway.

Dakota takes practice laps before we start our tour of La Jolla.

James takes a picture of us at Windansea.

The seals at the Children's Pool.

The view up the coast from the Children's Pool.

Scripps Park where the trees served as an inspiration for Dr. Seuss' books.

At the La Jolla Cove.

After our segway tour, we had some Einstein bagels and Starbucks then headed to the La Jolla Cave.

145 steps!

That looks like such a long way down!

 Such a great view!

Now back up the 145 steps.

The view from behind the Cave Store.

What a fantastic day and a great adventure!
